Yes! The TQC Dust Test Kit is especially designed with the IMO-PSPC in mind. Dust quantity rating is an important factor in the Performance Standard for Protective Coatings. Dust quantity rating is required at different stages of the blasting and coating proces such as the SSP (secundary surface preparation) stage.
UpAccumulation of dust occurs more naturally on horizontal surfaces, the interior of pipes and in structural cavities. Inspection should be carried out to ensure that such areas are adequately cleaned and free from dust before painting.
UpThe best moment is just prior to the application of the coatings. A surface might be totally clean right after grit-blasting but depending on circumstances and time frame before the coating is applied new dust may accumulate on the surface again.
UpA dust test or dust tape test according ISO-8502-3 is typically made in the field and not in a laboratory. Dust tape tests are performed under hash conditions, sometime outside on top of a scaffolding or inside a ship’s ballast tank with no other light that the inspector’s flashlight. Under such circumstances it is quite easy to loose, drop or forget items from the dust tape test kit. Since all forms, reference board and transfer sheet are secured in the binder the risk is minimal. The tools such as tape and magnifier have their dedicated location, protected by foam in the cover of the binder. As soon as the binder of the dust tape test is closed all items are secured.
