Standard TQC Test panels

Standard test panels are indispensable in the field of quality control in the coatings world. They are used for various mechanical test to check the physical properties of paint and coatings but also as dummies in larger coating projects to perform destructive testing . Further coated test panels are kept for record keeping or quality assurance purposes.

TQC high quality test panels are available for any application meeting the
highest test standards. Great care is taken to ensure a constant quality. The wide variety of substrates, finishes, pre-treatment and dimensions allow any test to be performed. All panels are packed in rugged cartons.
The panels are suitable for use in Qualicoat and GSB Quality programs.

New Dust Test Kit for blast cleaned surfaces

Loose particles on blast cleaned surfaces will reduce coating adhesion, leading to premature coating failure.
For inspection the pre-treatment quality during protective coating jobs as for example described in IMO-PSPC MSC.215(82) TQC has developed the SP3200 dust test kit.
An ergonomic test kit to assess the quantity and size of dust particles on blast cleaned surfaces prior to painting following the ISO8502-3 standard. An adhesive tape is applied under specified conditions on the blasted surface picking up any residue of dust or blasting media when removed.
The kit contains all required tools to perform the test such as specified adhesive tape, a pictorial standard to define dust quantity and size, an illuminated magnifier, scissors, a tape-transfer sheet and a set of report forms for permanent record keeping of sample findings.
Since these test has to be made on-site in often harsh conditions the kit has been designed in such a way that all separate items fit inside a special binder-case and are secured in place when not in use.
The report forms also offers facilities to note other relevant parameters during pre-treatment inspection such as condensation / dew point, roughness, salt contamination and visual cleanliness. An optional spring loaded roller is available to perform the test as described in ISO8502-3 par. 5.3 to ensure reproducible force on the test tape.

TQC Inspectors Flashlights are survivors

One of our clients that was inspecting coating work on the "Arena Amsterdam", the stadium of soccer club Ajax, accidentally dropped his TQC Inspectors flashlight. The clients send us this picture. "The light fell down approximately 45 meters (150 ft). Besides some scratches on the outside it work perfectly!" According the happy inspector....

NEW PTK INSPECTION KIT

The PTK is a test kit will all necessary items to perform a full inspection of the pre-treatment phase of a protective coatings job. As well know this stage is one of the most critical in the entire coating process and therefore requires thorough inspection and control. Parameters like cleanliness, roughness, dust, chlorides and climate have to be monitored and inspected. The PTK offers all necessary tools for this job and is fully adapted to the IMO-PSPC standard.

The PTK is supplied as a STANDARD or FULL KIT.
TQC-DSP® Method is quickly becoming the new Standard.

New Soluble Salt Testing method

Last year TQC developed the DSP® (Direct Sampling) Method. A new, quicker and above all more reliable way to test surfaces for the presence of soluble salts measured as sodium chloride.

The method is based and fully complies with ISO8502-6 and ISO8502-9. However the step of dilution was eliminated from the procedures. A new instrument and procedure developed by TQC allows the sample fluid that is used in the patch to wash the surface to be measured directly without any dilution. This not only increases efficiency but also eliminates the most error sensitive part of the old procedure. This also reduces the calculation factor to 1which means that any human errors such as unwanted contamination of tools or fluids will not be increased by a high multiplier as in the historic procedure.

The new TQC Bresle Kit is fully adapted to this new method.
For extensive information about the new DSP-method please click..

TQC Bresle Patches meeting the standards

Instruments and test methods are often based upon international standards. International standards are created by industry-specialist and experts. Using an internationally recognized standard does eliminate many discussions about how matters should be tested , what type of tools and instruments should be used etc..
Also for Bresle patches a clear description of the product performances is described in ISO8502-6. As the standard states; “It is essential that the adhesive patch is leak tight” a leak test is included in the standard under Annex A. Following this test Bresle patches has to be injected with a volume of 5,5 ml of water to show leak tightness and prove adhesives strength.

Some “Bresle” patches on the market are not designed to hold 5,5 ml. due to lack of flexibility of the materials used. Leakage and adhesion failure can be the result which leads to false measurements. It is clear that patches that do not pass the Annex A test do not meet the ISO8506 standard and the results are not backed up by any standard.
