Instruments and test methods are often based upon international standards. International standards are created by industry-specialist and experts. Using an internationally recognized standard does eliminate many discussions about how matters should be tested , what type of tools and instruments should be used etc..
Also for Bresle patches a clear description of the product performances is described in ISO8502-6. As the standard states; “It is essential that the adhesive patch is leak tight” a leak test is included in the standard under Annex A. Following this test Bresle patches has to be injected with a volume of 5,5 ml of water to show leak tightness and prove adhesives strength.
Some “Bresle” patches on the market are not designed to hold 5,5 ml. due to lack of flexibility of the materials used. Leakage and adhesion failure can be the result which leads to false measurements. It is clear that patches that do not pass the Annex A test do not meet the ISO8506 standard and the results are not backed up by any standard.
